THE CnY OF ATTACHMENT

Date:

To:

From:

Subject:

pLEAS&NTON

MEMORANDUM

August 7, 2001

Deborah Acosta McKeehan, City Manager
Mary Frances Callan, Superintendent of Schools

Cindy McGovem, Kris Weaver, Kay Ayala & Sharrell Michelotti
Youth Master Plan Implementation

On June 29, 2001, the School/City Liaison Committee met to prioritize and identify at least one
goal/objective for each major theme to be implemented during FY 2001/02. During this session,
the Committee identified common themes and many areas that overlap within the plan. With that
in mind, the Committee identified the following steps that need to be taken as part of the
implementation process within each category:

1. Identify all present services available (non-profits, governmental and health agencies,
the religious sector, etc.) as a basis for building on what currently is in place.

2. Establish a "user friendly" means to disseminate current and ongoing information to the
public regarding the implementation of the Youth Master Plan via web sites, media,
reports.

3. Continue and enhance all objectives identified as 5rems which have already been
addressed in some fashion' (shown as +) under each goal.

In the area of child care and supervised youth activities, the Liaison Committee selected two
goals: one that relates to child care and one related to supervised youth activities. This was done
for two reasons, to cover all age ranges identified within the 'Child Care and Supervised Youth
Activities "category and to address a greater portion of the overall plan. The Liaison Committee
recognized that the goals and objectives within this area comprise approximately 80% of the
entire Youth Master Plan.

Task 1 - Prioritize and Identify Goals and Obiectives for Implementation for the year 2001-07

The Committee is making the following recommendations which include at least one goal and/or
objective for each of the following areas: Child Care and Supervised Youth Activities, Community
of. Character, Intergenerational Relationships, Jobs and Leadership, Communication and
Coordination.

Modification to the text by the Liaison Committee is italicized.
