CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> COUNTY OF ALAMEDA <br /> STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 65-184 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION RE UNIVERSITY OF CALIF, ORNIA <br /> DEMONSTRATIONS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on October 1st and 2nd, 1964, students and <br />faculty members of the University of California, calling them- <br />selves the Free Speech Movement, staged an insurrection on the <br />campus of the University of California, capturing and damaging <br />a police vehicle; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on December 2, 1964, a certain group of <br />students and faculty members at the University of California, <br />calling themselves the Free Speech Movement, conducted so- <br />called "Sit-in" demonstrations at Sproul Hall on the University <br />of California campus and were arrested and convicted for the <br />same; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, for a period of two weeks prior to October 15, <br />1965, certain students and faculty members of the University <br />and students of the University of California, calling them- <br />selves the Vier Nam Day Committee, ~ld a mass meeting on the <br />premises of the University of California ur. ging that the United <br />States cease its struggle in Viet Nam, urging draft age men <br />to destroy their draft cards, urging members of the Armed <br />Forces to refuse to obey their orders and to refuse to go to <br />Vier Nam; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on October 15th and 16th, 1965, certain <br />students and faculty members of the University of California, <br />calling themselves the Vier Nam Day Committee, commenced a <br />march from the University of California campus to the Oakland <br />Army Embarkation Terminal to induce members of the United <br />States Army to refuse to obey lawful military orders of the <br />United States Government and go to Vier Nam; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, certain students and faculty members of the <br />University of California, calling themselves the Vier Nam Day <br />Co,~L~ittee, have announced their intention of conducting a <br />march from the University of California to the Oakland Army <br />Embarkation Terminal on November 13, 1965, for the purpose of <br />inducing members of the United States Army to refuse to obey <br />initial orders to go to Vier Nam; and <br /> WHEREAS, Section 2387 of Title 18 of the United States <br /> Criminal Code provides: <br /> <br /> (a) Whoever, with intent to interfere with, impai.~ or <br /> influence the loyalty, morale, or discipline of the <br /> military or naval forces of the United States: <br /> <br /> (1) advises, counsels, urges, or in any.m§nne_r causes <br /> or attempts to cause insubordination, disloyalty, <br /> mutiny, or refusal of duty by any member o.f th.e <br /> military or naval forces of the United Stanes, or <br /> <br /> <br />
