CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> COUNTY OF ALAMEDA <br /> STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RE:SOLUTION 140. 66-153,. <br /> <br />APPROVING POLICY FOR MAINTAINING~ <br />REMOVING AND REPLACING STREET TRgE~ <br /> <br />RESOLVED: <br /> <br />The City Council does hereby approve a street t=ee policy <br /> <br />as follows: <br /> <br /> 1. Trees in public ri~t.s-of-way are City property and <br />may only be removed by speci~mc order of the City Council with <br />the following exceptions: <br /> <br /> a. Trees in areas of street widenings or construction, <br /> according to previously approved Precise Plan Lines, <br /> construction contracts or Tentative Subdivision <br /> Maps may be removed at the discretion of the Director <br /> of Public Works at the time of construction of the <br /> public improvements without further specific approval <br /> from the City Council. <br /> <br /> b. Trees which create definite hazards or are themselves <br /> hazardous because of damage or faulty structure, <br /> dead trees, dying, damaged or diseased trees that <br /> cannot be saved by reasonable efforts in the opinion <br /> of the Director of Public Works, may be ~ved at <br /> the discretion of ~ Director of Public Works <br /> without specific approval of the City Council. <br /> <br /> 2. Trees in the category of l(a) above will normally be <br />removed by the contractor installing the public improvements. <br />In the case of a City construction contract the cost of removal <br />will normally be borne by the City. In the case of a subdivision <br />or other development requiring street improvements, the cost of <br />removal will normally be forne by the developer. <br /> <br /> 3. Trees in the category of l(b) above will normally be <br />removed and replaced by the City at City cost using City personnel <br />or q~fied contractors. Generally, this will be done annually <br />in the Spring of the year, or as otherwise scheduled, unless a <br />serious hazard exists. If an immediate serious hazard exists in <br />the opinion of the Director of Public Works, the subjec~ tree will <br />be scheduled for removal as soon as possible. Permission to <br />remove trees in the category of l(b) at any time other than as <br />scheduled by the City may be given by the Director of Public Works <br />In such cases the cost of removal will usually be borne by the <br />permittee. <br /> <br /> 4. Requests for removal of all other trees not in categories <br />l(a) or: l(h) must be made in writing to the Director of Public <br />Works together with reasons for the request. Such requests will <br />be forwarded to the City Council with a report and recommendation <br />from the ~rector of Public Works. <br /> <br />- 1 - <br /> <br /> <br />
