anton has three neighborhood parks, the newest of which <br />was completed in 1967. The City has an agreement with <br />the local school districts for summer use of school recrea- <br />tional facilities. These facilities indude the Amador High <br />School swimming pool, which is open to the public in <br />summer, and several playgrounds. <br /> There are seven 18-hole golf courses within ten min- <br />utes' drive of Pleasanton. Two of these are at the Castle- <br />wood Country Club--the former Hearst Ranch--im- <br />mediately west of Pleasanton. Nearby San Ramon Countty <br />Club, Sunol, just south of Pleasanton, and Livermore are <br />the sites of three other courses. <br /> The City is cooperating with the Directors of the Ala- <br />meda County Fair in the i%,ther development of the Fair- <br />grounds. New developments will be designed to increase <br />year-round use of the Fair's facilities by the community. <br /> The Pleasanton General Plan provides f~r 4,000 acres <br />(of a total of 28,000 acres) tO be reserved for use as open <br />spaces and for recreational areas. <br /> The City is within easy reach of the virtually unlimited <br />recreational facilities of the greater San Francisco Bay <br />Area, and the plays, concerts, operas and museums of <br />Francisco are also available to Pleasanmn residents. <br /> In the field of spectator sports, San Francisco and Oak- <br />land offer major league professional events. The new Oak- <br />land Coliseum is expected to provide edditional growth to <br />this aspect of the economy. <br /> <br />OTHER FACILITIES <br /> Pleasantun has seven churches, including two Roman <br />Catholic, one Presbyterian, one Baptist, one Methodist and <br />one Lutheran. Many other religious denominations have <br />facilities in the greater Amador-Livermote Valley. <br /> Gas and electricity are provided by the Pacific Gas and <br />Electric Company and telephone service is supplied by <br />Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company.
