beginning his/her daily duties or as otherwise may be specified by the <br />department head. <br /> <br />Absences for a Regular Work Day or Longer <br /> <br />When an absence is for an employee's regular workday or longer, the employee <br />may be required to file a physician's certificate or a personal affidavit with the <br />Deputy City Manager/Director of Human Resources stating the cause of the <br />absence. <br /> <br />Absences of Less Than a Regular Work Day <br /> <br />Except for confidential employees, absences due to illness or disability of less <br />than the employee's regular workday shall not be deducted from the employee's <br />accrued sick leave balance. <br /> <br />7.5(3) Sick Leave Conversion <br /> <br /> In lieu of the PERS "Credit for Unused Sick Leave Option," employees may, dudng <br /> their final year of service prior to retirement from the City, convert their unused sick <br /> leave to additional years of service in the computation of their Section 6.2 Retiree <br /> Medical Benefit. For each hour converted, the employee shall receive one half (1/2) <br /> hour of additional service time. <br /> <br />7.6 <br /> <br />Administrative Leave <br /> <br />In recognition that management employees are required to work hours beyond their <br />regular hours of work to fulfill their management responsibilities, each management <br />employee shall be credited with seven (7) days of administrative leave per year. The <br />City Manager may grant up to three (3) additional administrative leave days per year in <br />instances in which a management employee was required to devote substantially <br />more time during the previous year to fulfill his/her duties than was anticipated <br />normally. Middle management employees may be granted up to three (3) additional <br />administrative leave days only upon the recommendation of the employee's <br />department head. <br /> <br />Page 12 of 30 <br /> <br /> <br />
