~[EMORANDUM

January 22, 1975

TO:

FROM:

SUBJECT:

City Manager
cc: Director of Housing and Community Development

Director of Engineering Services

Heritage Tree Removal - 4092 Walnut Drive

A request to remove a Heritage Tree, 24 inch diameter Elm, has
been received from Mr. Robert B. Ettenborough, 4092 Walnut Drive.

In accordance with established procedure, a public hearing has
been advertised for the January 27, 1975, City Council meeting
at which time the Council will hear comments from any interested
party and consider the request to remove this Heritage Tree.

An on-site investigation of the tree Mr. Ettenborough desires to
remove has been made. Herewith is a detailed report and staff
recommendation concerning this matter:

Mr. Ettenborough indicated that the tree is infested with "borer
worms," and dry rot in many places in the trunk and branches.
Upon investigation, the tree was found to have been severly pruned
to approximately 30 feet and all side branches removed. We are
unable to verify the condition of the tree; however, it is located
within three feet of the garage. The trunk is growing against
the garage roof and will eventually cause damage to the structure.

In view of the location of the tree, it is recommended that the City
Council grant permission to remove this Heritage Tree.
