WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br /> CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> COUNTY OF ALAMEDA <br /> STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 75-232 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING REMOVAL OF RESTRICTIONS ON <br />CONSTRUCTION OF 1-580 BETWEEN DUBLIN-PLEASANTON AND <br />HAYWARD IN ORDER TO PERMIT FULL USE OF THE 8-LANE <br />FEEWAY UNDER CONSTRUCTION <br /> <br /> Interstate 580 is a major highway by which vehicular <br /> traffic is able to reach the Bay Area from Route 5 and <br /> Route 99; and <br /> said highway has been improved in the Altamont Pass area <br /> to the City of Livermore with eight travel lanes in East- <br /> West directions; and <br /> said highway has been restricted to four lanes in an <br /> East-West direction from Dublin and the City of Pleasan- <br /> ton to Hayward; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Pleasanton has consistent- <br /> ly been involved in efforts to alleviate the "bottle- <br /> neck" between the City of Pleasanton and Hayward; and <br /> members of the City Council of the City of Pleasanton <br /> have consistently been in contact with the California <br /> Department of Transportation, as well as with congres- <br /> sional representatives from this area and from the State <br /> of California, attempting to obtain eight lanes from the <br /> City of Pleasanton to Hayward; and <br /> since December 12, 1963, public hearings have been held <br /> discussing the widening of 1-580 to an eight-lane free- <br /> way; and <br /> governmental applications for said eight-lane highway <br /> were received and approved by the federal government; <br /> and <br /> subsequent to obtaining said approvals, but prior to <br /> receipt of bids on this project, the Sierra Club filed <br /> suit in the U. S. District Court, Northern District, <br /> <br /> <br />
