MEMORANDUM
TO: City Manager
FROM: Director of Engineering Services
February 18, 1976
SUBJECT: Heritage Tree Removal - 4011 Francisco Street
A request for removal of three heritage trees has been received
from Mrs. Sofia Estrella and a public hearing has been advertised
for February 23, 1976.
The trees in question are located in the required side yard,
14 feet behind sidewalk and 3 feet from the rear yard side fence
on Kolln Drive frontage of the above address. The tree closest
to the house is 21 feet from the rear property line, has a 22-ir;c"~
diameter trunk, and is approximately 40 feet high. This tree has
galls about 6 feet from the ground and has many surface roots.
7'he second tree is 9 feet from the rear property line, has an
11°inch diameter trunk and is approximately 40 feet high. The
third tree is 3 feet. from the rear property line, has a 27-inch
diameter trunk and is also approximately 40 feet high. Removal
is requested to allow construction of a swimming pool because it's
_.
roots and leaves will create problems. "" ""
In view of the fact. that the trees are located within the side
yard and not in the fenced back yard, I can not support the removal.
of all three heritage trees. The prevailing winds would reduce
the leaf problems as most dropping leaves would he blown across
the street.
It is recommended that Mrs. Estrella be allowed to remove the
diseased tree closest to the house and that the other two trees
be preserved.
Attached fox your information are copies of correspondence that. has
taken place concerning this matter.
~~ ..(~
