WHEREAS, the City Council, at its meeting of October 11, 1976, <br /> continued this matter to its meeting of October 26, 1976, <br /> in order to obtain further information with respect to <br /> potential radiation hazards resulting from the use of <br /> ionization smoke detection devices; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, at its meeting of October 26, 1976, the City Council <br /> considered further staff report of October 21, 1976 <br /> from the Acting Fire Chief; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council allowed members of the public to testi- <br /> fy as to the acquisition of smoke detectors for Kom- <br /> andorski Village. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOE <br />RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Authorizes the purchase of 169 Smokeguard 800A <br /> <br /> smoke detectors for installation at Komandorski Village <br /> subject to the following conditions: <br /> <br /> 1. The Acting Fire Chief should assess the Radiation <br /> Safety Analysis provided to the Nuclear Regulatory <br /> Commission by the manufacturer of the Smokeguard <br /> 800A smoke detectors and test the difficulty of <br /> removing the radioactive material contained in <br /> said detector. <br /> <br /> 2. At the time of installation of the Smokeguard de- <br /> <br /> tectors at Komandorski Village, each detector shall <br /> have placed upon it, in a conspicuous spot, a <br /> sticker warning the tenant not to remove the unit <br /> but to contact the Housing Authority or the City <br /> of Pleasanton Fire Department for removal. <br /> <br />Section 2. The 1976-1977 fiscal budget for the fire division <br /> of the Department of Public Safety, is amended by al- <br /> locating from unallocated reserves the sum of $5,800.00 <br /> for the purpose of purchasing 169 Smokeguard 800A <br /> smoke detectors for installation at Komandorski Village. <br /> <br />-2- <br /> <br /> <br />
