A revitalL
ization [,lan has been prepared which calls for street improvements, the
creation of new streets, replacement of sewer and water lines, creation
of parking, urban b~autification and other activities in the core area.
Provision of new and upgraded public facilities and utilities should
stimulate a new development of higher density in the residential portion
of the core area. This should provide additional moderately priced
housing to accommodate low and moderate income households. Restoration
of existing structures (both historic and otherwise) should also be
stimuiated by implementation of the Revitalization Plan. A major goal of the'
plan is to portray a balanced community capable of sustaining most of
the needs of the present and future residents of Pleasanton. Successful
implementation of the plan is a major long range objective of the City.
Development according to certain portions of the plan has already begun.
Supports Need A-2.

Supports ~ed(i) NO:

~-3 Prevention of Blight

More than 80% of Pleasanton's growth has taken place since 1965. Most
of this growth has been residential and the majority of new residents
live in fairly large subdivisions scattered throughout the City. Be-
cause of their ages, all of these dwelling units can be considered sound-
housing, however, the potential for deterioration is considerable. In
:
fact, incipient blight is now noticeable in small portions of at least
one of these recent subdivisions. Newer commercial and industrial areas
are also susceptible to decay. Prevention of urban blight is a major
long term objective of Pleasanton and this goal will be pursued through !
Code enforcement. Supports Need A-3.
