The City Council adopts the following five (5) guidelines
as the guiding policy in the City of Pleasanton for determ-
ining the need for and the level of street lighting to ex-
ist in the City of Pleasanton:

Turning Off and Removing Lights In implementing street
lighting level reduction guidelines, all lights will be
reviewed for possible removal; if it is determined that
the lights will not be required for safety purposes with-
in the next five years, the light will be removed.

New Subdivisions - Existing street lighting standards
will be changed to reduce street lighting standards by
20% in all new subdivisions. This will be accomplished
by increasing spacing between lights and reducing the
lighting level of each light.

Lighting on Major Streets - Lighting levels will be re-
duced on major streets by one or a combination of two
methods; lowering the lumen level from 11,000 to 7,500
or eliminating light fixtures.

Residential Area Lighting

a. Lighting levels in courts and cul-de-sacs will be re-
duced from 7,500 lumen lights to 3,500 lumen lights
unless specific safety considerations are involved.
