regarding announcements for positions and competitive examinations

in the fire service.

5. MERIT INCREASES: Union agrees to the amendment to Section
1203 of Resolution 71-73, as originally proposed in Resolution No.
73-111, to read as follows:

"No salary advancement shall be made so as to exceed
any maximum rate established in the pay plan for the
class to which the advanced employee's position is
allocated. Advancements shall not be automatic but
shall depend upon increased service value of an employee
to the City as exemplified by recommendations of his
supervising official, length of service, performance,
record, special training undertaken, or other pertinent
evidence, within the advancement policy established
by the pay plan. Any employee subject to a twelve-
month probationary period shall not normally be eligible
for advancement in pay until he has successfully com-
pleted said probationary period, or any extension thereof,
as provided in Section 1001 of these Rules and Regulations."
The above section amendment shall be applicable to any employee
hired subsequent to June 25, 1973. Union waives on behalf of itself
and any of its members any claim for wages which would have been other-
wise due and owing to a new employee hired subsequent to June 25, 1973

-3-
