5.4 continued <br /> <br />No salary advancement shall be made so as to exceed any <br />maximum rate established in the pay plan for the class <br />to which the advanced employee's position is allocated. <br />Salary increases shall not be automatic but shall depend <br />upon the employee rendering satisfactory service t0 the <br />city. Salary increases shall be approved by the Fire <br />Chief upon the receipt of the recommendation of the <br />employee's supervisor(s). Any employee shall not normally <br />be eligible for advancement for pay until he/she has <br />successfully completed his/her probationary period, or <br />any extension thereof, as provided in Section 20. <br /> <br />Changes in an employee's salary because of promotion or <br />demotion establish a new salary anniversary date for that <br />employee. Salary range adjustments for a classification <br />will not establish a new salary anniversary date for <br />employees serving in that classification. <br /> <br />5.5 <br /> <br />Salary Step When Salary Range is Increased <br /> <br />Whenever the monthly schedule of compensation for a clas~ <br />is revised, each incumbent in a position to which the <br />revised schedule applies shall be entitled to the step <br />in the revised range which corresponds to the step held <br />by him/her in the previous range. <br /> <br />5.6 <br /> <br />Salary Step After Promotion or Demotion <br /> <br />When an employee is promoted from a position in one <br />class to a position in a highe~ class, he/she shall receive <br />the minimum rate for the higher class;' provided however, <br />that such step is at least five percent (5%) above his/her <br />current wage.rate. When an employee is demoted, whether <br />such demotion is voluntary or otherwise, that employee's <br />compensation shall be adjusted to the salary prescribed <br />for the class to.which he/she is demoted. The specific <br />rate of pay within the range shall be determined by the <br />City Manager, whose decision~shall be final; provided, <br />however, that the employee's rate of pay shall not be set <br />at a lower rate than he/she would have received ~ad he/she <br />remained in the lower class. <br /> <br />Section 6. Hours of Work, Shift &Station Assignments <br /> <br />Work Schedule <br /> <br />The work schedule shall consist of nine (9) twenty-four <br />(24) hour on-duty periods within a twenty-seven (27) day <br />cycle to be worked in accordance with the following chart: <br /> <br />X = 24 hour on-duty period <br />O = 24 hour off-duty period <br /> <br />XOXOXOOOOXOXOXOOOOXOXOXOOOO <br /> <br />Exchanges of On-Duty Time <br />Exchanges of on-duty time shall be permitted between <br />employees of the same rank. E~changes of on-duty time <br />shall not be granted in-case that result in financial <br />liability to the City. Requests for exchanges of <br />on-duty time shall be submitted on the proper form to <br />employee's immediate supervisor and shall include both <br />signatures of the people involved and their immediate <br />supervisor. There shall be no limit to the number of <br />exchanges per month.
