This phase of the Ironwood Project adjoins the
City of Pleasanton's Operations Service Center (OSC) and noise from activity there could affect
the future residences. The 1996 noise study provided a comprehensive analysis of noise from the
OSC as it existed at that time. In this study, we (1) visited the project site to confirm existing
noise levels and levels of activity at the City Operation's Service Center; (2) reviewed applicable
local guidelines, plans, policies and zoning ordinance noise limits; (3) evaluated the noise
exposure at the project site with respect to these local standazds; and (4) evaluated the
effectiveness of the existing sound wall at mitigating noise from the OSC on the project site. In
the first section of this letter, we present background information on environmental acoustics to
assist you with technical terms and issues. The report then presents the applicable regulations
and a discussion of the noise exposure at the site. The report concludes with an analysis of the
noise impacts and recommended mitigation measures.
Background Information on Noise
Noise maybe defined as unwanted sound. Noise is usually objectionable because it is disturbing
or annoying. The objectionable nature of sound could be caused by its pitch or its loudness.
Pitch is the height or depth of a tone or sound, depending on the relative rapidity (frequency) of
~ Environmental Noise Study for Ponderosa at Laurel Meadows, Busch Property, prepared for Ponderosa Homes,
Inc., by Charles M.
