It was moved by Councilman Reid and seconded by Councilman Beratlis that <br />Resolution No. 70-67, assigning the name "Pleasanton Aquatic Center" to the swim <br />center now being constructed in the Amador Valley Community Park, be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Getton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />R.~port of the Recreation and Park Commission Re: .Na~.$n~ of Fairlands. Park .(T) <br />Report of the Recreation and Park Commission Re: Namtn8 of Mohr Park (T) <br /> Mr. Fales read the report of the Recreation and Parks Commission relating to <br />the naming of the above listed parks, which recommended that the Fairlands Park (T) <br />be named "Loma Alta Park" and that the Mohr Park (T) be named "Century Park". <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the recommended names. <br /> A letter from Mr. Herb Hageman, President of the Amador-Livermore Valley <br />Historical Society, in which the history of the subject areas was outlined, was <br />discussed. <br />Councilmen Spiliotopoulos and Beratlis suggested that the Mohr Park (T) be <br />named "Blacow Park" in memory of an old Valley family who once owned the property. <br /> Councilman Reid stated that the City Council has delegated the responsibility <br />to the Recreation and Parks Commission to research and recommend park names to the <br />Council and felt their recommendations should be upheld. <br /> After further discussion, it was moved by Councilman Spiliotopoulos and seconded <br />by Councilman Rega that Resolution No. 70-68, assigning the permanent name of "Loma <br />Alta Park" to the park known temporarily as Fairlands Park, be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Betatits, Rega, Spiltotopoulos and Mayor Gerton <br />NOES: Councilman Reid <br />A~SENT: None <br /> <br /> Councilman Reid stated he voted against this name because he felt that the <br />recommendation of the Recreation and Parks Commission that was presented on March <br />30, 1970, to name this park "Lomita Alta Park" should have been accepted, <br /> <br /> It was moved by Councilman Reid and seconded by Councilman Rega that Resolution <br />No. 70-69, assigning the permanent name of "Century Park" to the park tentatively <br />known as "Mohr Park", be adopted. <br />~'he roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Rega, Reid and Mayor Gerton <br />NOES: Councilmen Beratlfs and Spiliotopoulos <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />REPORTS OF THE CITY MANAGER <br />Froposed Resolution Requesting S~a.[e...pu~lic utilities commission Study R~: Beautifi- <br />cation of Railroad Rights-of-Way <br /> Mr. Fales reviewed his report, dated April 3, 1970, in which he recommedded that <br />the City Council adopt a resolution requesting initiation of a feasibility study of <br />railroad rights-of-way by the Public Utilities Commission and that the staff be <br />authorized to attend the P.U.C. meeting on April 14, 1970, in order to assist the <br />staff of the League of California Cities in their presentation of this matter· <br /> It was moved by Councilman Reid and seconded by Councilman Beratlts that <br />Resolution No. 70-70, requesting the Public Utilities Commission to institute a <br />special study as to the feasibility of requiring railroads throughout the State <br />of California to beautify their rights-of-way in urban areas through proper land- <br />scaping and maintenance thereof, be adopted. <br />T~.e roll call vote was as follows: <br />~FiS: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid, Sptliotopoulos and Mayor Certon <br />I~C'~;S: None <br />ALSENT: None <br /> <br />M~tters for the Information of the Council <br /> Mr. Fales requested that he be given approval to order that the City flags be <br />flown at half mast on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, in memory of the four high- <br />way patrolmen that were murdered in Southern California. <br /> Mr. Fales was granted authorization. <br /> <br /> EPORTS OF THE CITY ATTORNEY <br /> There were no reports from the City Attorney. <br /> <br /> <br />
