COMMUNICATIONS
Item 14a
Request of Three Homeowners, Located Adjacent to the Casual Use
Area at the Eastern End of Sports Park, to Have City Remove or
Move Entire Casual Use Area to Another Site

Ms. Bengtson presented her report (SR 90:184) regarding the
matter.

Ms. Donna Roy, 2841 Jonas Gate Court, and also representing
the Wrights who live in the same area, requested Council not to
take any action on the matter until sufficient information is
available and possible solutions are studied. She handed the
Councilmembers a letter and a 15-minute video tape and requested
that they view it at their convenience. She added that she went
through back issues of The Valley Times and noticed that no legal
notices were published for two public hearings held in 1988. She
requested assistance from the Parks and Community Services
Department to determine the dates and the newspapers in which
these notices were published.

Mr. Brandes stated that he had reviewed the situation and
talked to staff and felt that the recommendation from the staff
and the Park and Recreation Commission is the appropriate action
to take. He indicated, however, that he is willing to look into
the additional information provided.

Mr. Dennis Powers, 3164 Joanne Circle, stated that a lot of
time has been invested in the Sports Park in the last three years
and that the concerned residents should consider raising the
fences with an option on approval of a variance on an ordinance.
He indicated that Omega Circle alone has 35 children and that at
least 37 homeowners in the area are in favor of keeping the casual
use area as it is.

- 23 -
5-15-90
