Mr. Tarver said his intention is to say that it is clear the District needs to solve the
high school situation and a third high school is needed. He understands what is in
progress and how long it will take, but he wants a solution to the high school issue as
soon as possible. If Council wants a general motion to solve the high school
overcrowding as soon as possible, fine; but he will send a letter stating his comments as
an individual.

Ms. Dennis indicated she supported the concept of a third high school, but there
are a variety of options for that regarding size, etc. The Council need not be so specific at
this time.

Ms. Michelotti read a section of the report that clearly states there is a
consideration for a third high school. The School Board is now working with the
community and she felt the Board should continue with that process.

Ms. Ayala said she would like all the facts of the different scenarios for handling
the high school. Last year there was $4.3 million in the cash flow chart for the year 2000.
That amount was moved. The need is definitely there and she felt it was up to the
citizens to lobby the School Board for a solution and she felt the people would also like
to see the facts before making a decision. The School Board has said it does not want to
have campuses of 2500 it has set up a committee to get alternatives.

It was moved by Mr. Tarver, seconded by Ms. Michelotti, to express
Council's support of the great strides that have been made by the School District to
form a committee concerning the high school expansion and the Council urges the
School Board to solve the high school expansion/overcrowding problems as soon as
possible.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Dennis, Michelotti, Pico, and Mayor Tarver
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

5. Adjournment

There being no further business, the meeting was adjoumed at 8:35 p.m., to meet
again in a Regular Session on July 6, 1999, at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

Respectfully submitted,

PeggFIi,/E~c~o, Cit3~lerk

Pleasanton City Council 15 06/22/99
Minutes
