Pleasanton Gateway Environmental Checklist <br />Less Phan <br />Potentially Signiticatrt Less 'Phan <br />Significant With Mitigation Significant No <br />Issues (Continued) Impact Incorporated Impact hnpact <br />c) Be located on a geologic unit or soil that is unstable, or <br />that would become unstable as a result of the project, <br />and potentially result in on- or off-site landslide, lateral <br />spreading, subsidence, liquefaction or collapse? <br />d) Be located on expansive soil, as defined in Table 18-1- <br />B of the Uniform Building Code (1994), creating sub- <br />stantial risks to life or property? <br />e) Have soils incapable of adequately supporting the use <br />of septic tanks or alternative wastewater disposal sys- <br />tems where sewers are not available for the disposal of <br />wastewater? <br />^ ^X <br />^ ^ <br />^X <br />Discussion <br />a-i-iii) The subject site is located in the Alquist-Priolo Earthquake Fault Zone as delineated by the Cali- <br />fornia Division of Mines and Geology. The project would be subject to potential damage from <br />earthquake ground shaking as a maximum intensity of VIII of the Modified Mercalli Scale. <br />The State of California provides minimum standards for building design through the California <br />Building Standards Code (California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 24). The California Uni- <br />form Building Code is based on the UBC and has been modified for California conditions with <br />numerous more detailed and/or stringent regulations. Specific seismic safety requirements are <br />set forth in Chapter 23 of the UBC. The State earthquake protection law requires that buildings <br />be designed to resist stresses produced by lateral forces caused by earthquakes. "1'he City imple- <br />ments the requirements of the California Code through its building permit process. "fhe pro- <br />posed project will be required to comply with the applicable codes and standards to provide <br />earthquake resistant design to meet or exceed the current seismic 'Lone 8 requirements. There- <br />fore, this would be aless-than-significant-impact. <br />a-iv) The site is generally flat and, therefore, will not be subject to landslides. Therefore, this would <br />be no-impact. <br />b-d) Natural erosion is frequently accelerated by human activities such as site preparation for con- <br />struction. Grading and excavation and trenching for on-site utility lines, will disturb soils, which <br />could increase the rate of erosion if controls or best management practices are not in place. "I'he <br />City requires that all projects meet the requirements for stormwater control measures during de- <br />sign, construction and implementation phases of the project. Grading is prohibited from October <br />15 to April 1 to reduce Citywide impacts. Therefore, this would be a les-then-signifrcant- <br />impact. <br />e) "fhe project will be connected to the sanitary sewer system.
