Finally, at the workshop an issue was raised regarding access to DonIon School. In addressing
this issue it should be noted that a bikeway has been proposed for Donan Drive between West
Las Positas and DonIon School. However, in order to install the bikeway, parking on Donan
Drive will need to be modified. Staff is presently working with the school and adjacent property
owners to fred an acceptable solution, which we would like to implement before the start of
school. It is noted that sidewalk handicap ramps in the DonIon School area are scheduled to be
constructed in November 1997.

With respect to bicycle access between the parBide area and Dorman school, staff will be
reviewing ways to improve access, both separately and in conjunction with the Arroyo Mocho
trails plan. Follow-up with residents will be provided at a future staff Traffic Committee
meeting.

FISCAL IMPACT

As indicated, the project estimates expenditures of $57,450,157 over the next five years. All of
these projects are funded from revenues traditionally earmarked for the City's Capital
Improvement Program including a General Fund transfer. As a result, there should not be any
additional financial impact on the City except for those detailed in the program. However,
obviously, should the City Council decide to add projects to the program, additional impact may
result, or projects which are listed as funded may be transferred to an unfunded category.

Respectfully submitted,

City Manager

SRB/cf(sr97191.sam)

SR 97:191
7
