<br /> <br />4D <br /> <br />'- <br /> <br />pLEASANTONo <br /> <br />City Council <br />Staff Report <br /> <br />March 7, 2006 <br />Public Works Department <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW OF <br />BIDS AND AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR V ALLEY TRAILS <br />STREET LIGHT REPLACEMENT <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action at the <br />meeting of March 7, 2006: <br /> <br />1. Approve plans and specifications for the project, <br /> <br />2. Award the contract for the subject project to the lowest <br />responsible bidder Bleyco Inc. for the low bid amount of <br />$331,637.00, <br /> <br />3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the above contract. <br /> <br />4. Authorize the Director of Public Works to approve and execute <br />contract change orders for a contingency amount not to exceed <br />twenty percent (20 %) of the contract amount for necessary related <br />subject project work. <br /> <br />SUMMARY: <br /> <br />The street lighting in the Valley Trails neighborhood is reaching the end <br />of its useful life, Visual inspection shows many poles are leaning, have <br />peeling paint, and have a low level light output from the fixtures, Funds <br />are allocated in the capital replacement budget to allow for replacement of <br />street lights as they reach the end of their useful life , <br /> <br />Five demonstration street lights were installed in the Valley Trails <br />neighborhood, The purpose of the demonstration was to evaluate various <br />street light fixtures and poles, and to offer the Valley Trails residents the <br /> <br />SR:06:067 <br />Page I of6 <br />
