In the matter of
a. P14-1276, City of Pleasanton
Application to amend Title 18 (Zoning) of the Pleasanton Municipal Code to
establish a permit process and performance standards for beekeeping.
I am writing because I want the City Council to allow residential beekeeping
in Pleasanton. It is important for our environment to have bees doing their
work here, and for us to accommodate pollinators, without which a
• significant proportion of our food crops would not ripen.
I am confident that regulations can be put in place to resolve any safety
concerns. Beekeeping has been practiced since ancient times, and is done
safely throughout our country, and around the world The benefits are
widely known. Given all the problems affecting the industry, such as
Colony Collapse Syndrome, it is time for us here in Pleasanton to support
honey bees and beekeepers in their vital mission.
I have lived in the city since 1976 and in our current residence since 1978.
As a long-time resident who has actively promoted landscaping of our yard
with native plants that minimize irrigation requirements while harboring
wildlife, I think it is vitally important for the city to approve residential
beekeeping.
I am unable to attend the Planning Commission meeting tonight as I am
entertaining a close family member from out of town who arrived today for a
short visit.
Ward Belding ..
•
7
r
SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
Provided to the Planning Commission
After Distribution of Packet
Date Distributed: l/Mfwir -
I
