Mr. Trimingham reported that 52 trees had been set out on local streets <br />during January and that two property owners had bought the trees placed'in front of <br />their property. He further reported that the I,6outhern Pacific expected to undertake <br />their work on -the Neal -5treet crossing within a short time. <br />Councilman Rivolta reported-that the finances of -the town were in very good <br />condition. <br />Thomas H.. Silver, a remember of the Board of Trustees of the Pleasanton Grammar schocl <br />drew to the attention. of the Council water lodging in the vicinity o2' the grammar school <br />and causing a bad condition at this time. The matter was referred to the Superintendent <br />of Streets wi't'n instructions to do what he could to assist in improving conditions. <br />Poundmaster 2'anuel M. Rodrigues brought to the attention of the Council the present <br />dog situation which was becoming a nuisance and asked that the Council consider the <br />proceedure-. followed by Livermore and other communities in the matter of remedying the <br />situation, ' to employ a dog catcher who would receive a fee for all dogs that he <br />had to take care of and dispose of. Mr. Rodrigues stated that in Livermore the license <br />was $1.00 and the penalty charged $1.00 and that all dogs caught and disposed of were <br />$2.00. lie assured the Board that the situation could be remedied and results would follow <br />if this was done. Councilman Madsen spoke in favor of the project as'did Councilman <br />Amaral and both advised that it be tried.In order to give local parties owning dogs a <br />further opportunity to procure their license it was ordered that the Clerk should give <br />due publicity to the matter in advance of the dog catcher proceeding with his activities. <br />The 'blerk brought up the matter of installing sidewalks as a WPA project, stating <br />that a .prof ect had been on file in the Oakland office for sometime and it became necessary <br />for the-,Cbiune'il now to decide whether or not same would proceed. Councilman Madsen <br />and Councilman Rivolta had some objections to the matter and after a discussion among <br />the Councilmen Lt was decided that it would be best to allow the matter to be.dropped. <br />On motion of Councilman Rivolta seconded by Uouncilman Amaral and with all Councilmen <br />in favor of same, it was ordered that the project should be dropped at this time. <br />The Clerk brought to the attion of the Council curb and gutter accounts owing <br />the municipality and principally one which should have been settled at an earlier <br />date. It was ordered that the Clerk should communicate with the parties concerned <br />and advise them that their accounts should be settled on or before bla.rch 15th in order <br />that the curb and gutter accounts might be closed. <br />Fire Chief Letham asked permission of the Council to dispose of the Star Fire <br />Truck to the Farm Bureau committee and to dispose of same as it stood. tie brought <br />to the attention of the Council that the Farm Bureau committee had provided a new <br />GMC chassis on which a new body was to be installed. The committee was also providing <br />the body and they asked that permission be granted to turn back the Star Fire Truck <br />to them since they had provided it previously in order that what might be derived' <br />from the sale of the truck could be used to defray the expenses of a new body. A short <br />discussion followed during which questions were asked Mr. Letham and at its conclusion <br />on motion.of Councilman Amaral, seconded by Councilman Trimingham and with all the <br />Councilmen in favor of same,, it was ordered that the truck be turned back to the <br />Farm Bureau committee to be disposed of as it saw fit. <br />The following resalutions were then presented: <br />Resolution No.-1636--Authorizing the payment ;. of the salaries of the municipal <br />officers for the month -of January, amounting to $770.00- This <br />resolution was adopted Cn motion of Councilman Madsen, seconded <br />by Councilman Trimingham and with- all the councilmen in, favor <br />of same. <br />Resolution No. 1617 : -- Authorizing the Clerk to cancel License No. 149 -,hex Gritzmaker <br />(Pl.asteringj $12.009 . which was issued in error.
