1226 <br />City _Tudge:_.'he report showed that 460.00 had been collected in fines during the <br />month of ootober., 1937' <br />3?1re�•0h ef.s -- Sheaving report of activities during the month of October, 1937 -. <br />Milk Inspector:-- Shotiving laboratory report of milk.samples'during the month of October. <br />Ashton Britten:-=Showing laboratory report -- of the sewer farm during the month of October. <br />Building Inspector: -- Report showed that 4 building permits had been issued.during the <br />month of October: <br />The reports were referred to the finance committee for audit and report. <br />The follow irk; communi -cat ions were then read V <br />October 6th: - -U.S. Department of Commerce, in re. Cenus of partial employment and <br />unemployed and occupations. <br />October 18th: -' State Department of Social Welfare, attaching copy of recent inspection <br />of the Pleasanton City jail and advising with reference to certain <br />changes which the department feels should be carried out. The <br />Investigator's report in part said: "'Phis is one of the best small <br />Jails, that I have visited in California. It is clean, sanitary and <br />up to date. The Police Department is well managed and very.co- <br />operative." <br />November 1st:-- Voman's Improvement Club advising that the Club desired to co= <br />operate with the council in the matter of tree planting and also <br />asked what plans the Council has-in mind for this work in ' the future. <br />The T'he communication was signed by the tree Committee of the Club which <br />includes Mrs. C. vmallwood, Mrs. Mary Stovall and Mrs.-Harry 'Tripp. <br />A recess followed during which the finance committee examined Claims No. 145 <br />to 182 inclusive and amounting to $687.29. After the meeting had been called to <br />order again, Councilman Madsen, acting chairman of the finance committee reported <br />that the committee had examined'and approved the claims and made a motion to the <br />effect that they be paid. His motion was seconded by Councilman Amaral, and with all <br />the Councilmen in favor of same. Councilman Madsen reported that the officers <br />monthly reports were accepted and he moved that they be placed on file. 'There <br />were no objections to same. In connection with the officers reports the.report of <br />the Fire Chief recommended that the municipality pay $135.00 for 350 gallon Barton <br />pump which had been secured from the City of Alameda. The Yire Chief, in his report, <br />stated that the pump had originally cost $600.00 and that the city of Alameda was <br />including 35 feet of 4 inch suction house which had a list price of $145.500 that <br />both the pump and the suction hose was in :=splendid condition and that same was a <br />valuable asset to the department. After some discussion among the Councilmen with <br />reference to the matter, it was ordered on motion of 4ouncilman Amaral, seconded <br />by Councilman Olesen that the municipality purchase the pump and the suction <br />hose from the City of Alameda for the price of $135.00- <br />Action on the communications taken as follows: <br />October 6th:-- U.S.Department of Commerce. Filed <br />October 18th: - -State Department of 6ocial welfare. Filed. <br />November lst:-- roman's Improvement -Club. The Clerk was <br />committee to the affect that the.Council <br />its tree planting project and that- plans <br />present time in connection with same. Hansen, president of the organization asking for a dance permit for <br />Saturday evening, November 13th, said dance to be held at the veterans Memorial <br />Building. The application was accompanied by the customary fee of $.5•.00. There <br />were no objections to the permit being granted. <br />Councilman Madsen of the Public Utilities Committee reported that the work of <br />his department was progressing with satisfaction. Councilman Amaral questioned <br />Councilman Madsen concerning recent F.G:.& X. bills for power at the sewer farm, <br />stating that'same had been higher than he had calculated they would be and wonder- <br />ed if there was any special reason for same. Councilman laadsen advised that the <br />heating unit at the sewer farm was being called upon to take care of considerable <br />work and according more power was required. <br />Councilman Amaral of the Laws and Judiciary Committee brought up the matter <br />of the garbage disposal by Mr. Zunino, stating that Mr. Zunino was present at the <br />meeting according to instructions from the Council "to appear and that he should <br />be heard. Mr. Zunino stated why he had been unable to give the proper garbage <br />service required by the Town, but the Council was hardly satisfied with his <br />reasons for not picking up the garbage as he should. Councilman Madsen reported . <br />what had taken place in connection with his own garbage and the complaints which• <br />he had received -and he insisted that Mr. Zunino do something to -tmp•rove his <br />service or that the Council definitely take steps to.have someone else pick up <br />the.garbage. On the promise of Mr. Zunino that he would do better, the Council <br />permitted the matter to rest. <br />
