117 7 <br />T.he reports were referred to the finance committee for audit and report. <br />There were no communications for consideration. <br />An application for permission to hold a dance at the I.B.E.S.Hall on Saturday <br />evening, May 16th was received from the Catholic Social Club and signed by James <br />Giorgis. There were no objections to the permit being granted and accordingly.same <br />was ordered. <br />A recess followed during which the finance committee examined Claims No. 468 <br />to 519 .inclusive and amounting to 41268.39. After the meeting had been called <br />to order again, Councilman Rivolta of the finance committee reported that the <br />committee had examined and approved the claims and made a motion to the effect <br />that they be paid. His motion was seconded by Councilman Amaral, and with all <br />the Councilmen in favor of same. Councilman Rivolta also reported that the <br />officers' monthly reports were accepted and moved that they be placed on file: <br />Councilman Madsen of the Public Utilities committee, reported that conditions <br />at the sewer farm were progressing with satisfaction. <br />Councilman Olesen of the Street and Building committee made a short report <br />with regards,to the Richards matter which had been settled in court last Wednesday, <br />April 29. Attorney Nilson was called upon for a report on the matter and he gave <br />an account cf what had taken place as regards the settlement to be made. He <br />advised the Council that Tyr. Richards had signed the deed and accordingly the <br />Council should honor his claim for $150.00. He also advised that Mr. Mancini <br />would shortly submit a bill for his expenses as regards appearing in court and <br />preparing certain maps etc. The discussion on the slopewall matter concluded <br />with the passing of Resolution 1589, a resolution accepting delivery of a deed <br />from C.S.Richards and Hazel Richards, his wife, to the Town of Pleasanton and <br />authorizing the same to be recorded. This resolution was passed on motion of <br />Councilman Madsen, seconded by Councilman Olesen and with all the councilmen <br />in favor of same. Councilman Olesen then brought up the matter of Clean Up <br />Meek and on his motion seconded by Uouncilman Rivolta and with all the councilmen <br />in favor of same the week of May 23 to 30th was set aside as Clean -Up Week and <br />Superintendelt of Streets Rodrigues was instructed to post the necessary notices. <br />Councilman Rivolta of the Finance Committee made remarks with regards to <br />the expenditures of the municipality. He drew attention to the expenditures <br />of the past year which seemed to be constantly mounting and he felt that <br />all department heads should be cautioned as regards exercising economy in the work <br />of their departments. Mayor Orloff concurred with Councilman Rivolta as did <br />all the councilmen. <br />The Clerk presented a contract from the Pacific Gas & Electric Company <br />for street lighting etc. same to be signed for a one year period. On motion <br />of Councilman Madsen, seconded by Councilman Rivolta and with all the councilmen <br />in favor of same, the mtter was laid over. <br />The following resoluitons were then read: <br />Resolution No. 1586 -- Authorizing the payment of the salaries of the municipal <br />officers for the month of April and amounting to $745.00. <br />No. 1587 -- Authorizing the Clerk to cancel License No. 87 - San <br />Joaquin Valle bleat Co. on account of discontinuing <br />deliveries,and License No. 158, General Petroleum Company, <br />on account of discontinuing deliveries. <br />No. 1588 -- Authorizing the 'town Treasurer to draw warrants in the <br />sum of -$5.00 each, in favor of Fred 5narey, Edith Ziegen:fuss, <br />Caroline M. Ward, X.Rellie Steane, for services performed <br />by them as officers of the municipal election held in the <br />Town of Pleasanton, Tuesday, April 14th. <br />,e <br />Action on the resolutions were taken as f olloms: <br />Resolution No. 1586 -- Adopted on motion of Councilman Madsen, seconded by Council - <br />man Olesen and with all the councilmen in favor of same. <br />No. 1587 -- Adopted on motion of Councilman Madsen, seconded by Councilman <br />Rivolta and with all the councilmen in favor of same. <br />n n No. 1588 -- Adopted on motion of Councilman Olesen, seconded by Councilman <br />Rivolta and with all the councilmen in favor of same. <br />Karl Bieler appeared before the Council with regards to opening a restaurant <br />in the Regalia "building opposite the Veteranh Memorial Building and also with <br />regards to his restaurant license. After a short discussion on the matter; it <br />was ordered that Mr. Bieler would have to take out a new license for this location. <br />The Clerk reported that Mr. Nelson of the Division of Highways had visited <br />him that day with regards work on Division Street and he (lair. Nelson) would prepare <br />a new project statement for the consideration of the Council at an early date. <br />There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 10 o'clock to meet <br />in regular session, Monday evening, June lst at 8 o'clock. <br />Approved: Clerk <br />I& yo rfil <br />
