11
THE CITY OF
L~E~S~NTONo
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
June 3, 2008
Parks and Community Services Department
TITLE: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW OF BIDS,
AND AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR THE GINGERBREAD PRESCHOOL
PLAY YARD RENOVATION, PROJECT N0.067015
SUMMARY
Bids have been received for renovation of the outdoor play area at Gingerbread
Preschool, and staff is recommending award of the construction contract to the firm of
McNabb Construction, in the amount of $323,806. The project consists of the
expansion of the existing play area, including replacement of all apparatus, construction
of two (2) large shade/rain trellises, improved disabled access to the preschool building,
and other related improvements. The renovated play area will present a rich outdoor
learning environment for children 2-5 years of age.
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council take the following actions at its meeting of June 3, 2008:
1. Approve the construction documents for this project, prepared by Keller
Mitchell & Company, Landscape Architects.
2. Award a construction contract for the subject project to the firm of McNabb
Construction, for the low bid of $323,806.
3. Authorize the transfer of $355,377 from the Capital Improvement Program
Reserve (CIPR) to fund construction of the proposed improvements and
provide a modest project contingency.
4. Authorize the City Manager to execute the contract for the project.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
In addition to the construction contract amount of $323,806, staff recommends that a
15% construction contingency ($48,571) be allocated to cover the cost of any
unforeseen field conditions. Council has previously authorized the reallocation of
$17,000 donated to the project by the Friends of Gingerbread (FOG) Board on January
15, 2008, reducing the contingency request to $31,571. This would require a transfer of
$355,377 from the CIPR, which has a current reserve balance of $5,120,835.
