THE CITY OF
- ~ CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
PL~E ~AS~4NTONe
October 2, 2007
Finance Department
TITLE: APPOINTMENT OF THE 2008 ADVISORY BOARD FOR THE
PLEASANTON DOWNTOWN ASSOCIATION BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT
DISTRICT
SUMMARY
State law requires the City Council to appoint an advisory board to the PDA Business
Improvement District to prepare the 2008 budget and report. The budget details the
calculation of the annual assessment to be levied on the businesses within the district.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the Council appoint the 2008 Pleasanton Downtown Association
("PDA") Advisory Board as follows:
Brent Alverson, Zzippes of Pleasanton
Bernie Billen, Valley Community Bank
Vic Malatesta, Vic's All Star Kitchen
Judy Wheeler Differ, Towne Center Books
Janet Yarbrough, Certified Public Accountant
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The City contract with the PDA requires the City to match the annual assessments paid
by businesses in the district. In 2007, the City match from the General Fund was
approximately $61,000. Staff anticipates the 2008 match will be between $60,000 and
$65,000. In addition to the direct City contribution, the City adds approximately $60,000
in indirect funding which includes staff time to administer the PDA assessments and
contract, assistance with the Hometown Holiday Celebration, as well as the cost to
maintain downtown planters, cleaning sidewalks, garbage pickup, and staff time for
special events.
