The Kids All American Fishing Derby is being held on May 5 at Shadow
Cliffs Regional Recreation Area. This is the final weekend of Grease at the Amador Theater.
She congratulated the Amador Valley High School for their stellar performance, taking second
place at the National Finals this week in Washington, D.C.

Roll Call
Present: Councilmembers Cook-Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, Mayor Hosterman
Absent: None

AGENDA AMENDMENTS:
None

CONSENT CALENDAR

Councilmember Thorne noted, with regard to Item No. 5, that the City will participate in the
countywide inventory of global warming gasses, confirmed the Council was not obligated to do
anything with the recommendation, and that it would return to Council for a decision as a result
of the audit done by ICLEI.

Mayor Hosterman requested an explanation of ICLEI for the benefit of audience members. City
Manager Fialho described ICLEI as an organization contracted with the Alameda County Waste
Management Authority and participating agencies, to conduct an environmental audit for
municipalities and county organizations. A CO2 footprint will be identified and ICLEI will
recommend ways in which the city can reduce greenhouse gases and emissions over time.
Some recommendations will be developed and it is up to individual municipality to decide to
what degree recommendations should be implemented.

Councilmember Sullivan said 12 out of 14 Alameda County cities were part of the greenhouse
gas reduction program, an audit will be performed, recommendations will come out of that and
the City will design and hopefully adopt an action plan to reduce greenhouse gases over time.
He felt it was a great step forward, as this program mirrored similar policies done over a period
of time by the City.

Councilmember McGovern supported the idea of using waste import mitigation funds by the city
and working together with the other cities and she confirmed the city had to have a membership
in ICLEI to have the audit done. City Manager Fialho said they did ask whether they could use
the import mitigation funds as a way to pay for that membership and said this was denied by the
County. Therefore, the program has been structured to be for one year. Upon completion of the
audit the city can then decide whether or not it wants to continue its membership at a cost of
$1,200.
