MINUTES <br /> OF THE <br /> MEETING <br /> OF THE <br />PLEASANTON CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />July 17, 2001 <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br /> The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order by Mayor Tom Pico <br />at 7:01 p.m. <br /> <br /> Ms. Dennis led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. She offered <br />condolences to the family of Pleasanton resident and Valley matriarch Amy Orloff, who <br />died on July 4, 2001 at the age of 87. Ms. Orloffwas a third generation Valley resident <br />whose grandparents settled in Li,~miore in 1869. She was bom Amy Jensen November <br />21, 1913 on the family farm in Livermore. She graduated from Livermore High School <br />in 1932 and in 1939 she married Edwin Orloff, whose parents were also early settlers in <br />the Valley. Ed's father served as a school board member and as Mayor of Pleasanton. <br />The Orloffs built their home in Pleasanton on Division Street in 1940 and from their <br />home ran the family dairy business. Mrs. Orloff took care of their three children, Karen, <br />Tom, and Linda. All three children went to the old Pleasanton Elementary School on <br />First Street and all graduated from Amador Valley High School. Karen now lives in <br />Indiana on a farm with her husband; Linda is president of the Amador Valley Historical <br />Society and Tom has been Disffict Attorney for Alameda County for the past six years <br />and is President of the California District Attorney's Association. Mrs. Orloff's lasting <br />legecy is her devotion to her family and all of her community work and involvement. <br />She is going to be missed by the community. <br /> <br />2. ROLL CALL <br /> <br /> Deputy City Clerk Marsha Schmiegel called the roll, which is recorded as <br />follows: Councilmembers present were Kay Ayala, Becky Dennis, Sharrell Michelotti <br />and Mayor Tom Pico. Staff members present were: Deborah MeKeehan, City Manager; <br />Michael Roush, City Attorney; Stoven Boeian, Deputy City Manager; Sue Rossi, Director <br />of Finance; Randall A. Lum, Director of Public Works; Brian Swii~, Director of <br />Planning; Tim Neal, Police Chief; Larissa Seto, Assistant City Attorney; Bill van Gelder, <br />Traffic Manager; Wes Jost, Development Services Manager; James Kelcourse, Senior <br />Civil Engineer; Jeff Knowles, Traffic Manager, and Scott Baker, Deputy Director of <br />Public Works <br /> <br />Councihnember Matt Campbell was absent and excused. <br /> <br />pl~aSanton City Council 1 <br />Minutes <br /> <br />07/17/01 <br /> <br /> <br />
