MINUTES <br /> OF THE <br /> MEETING <br /> OF THE <br />PLEASANTON CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />June 20, 2000 <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br /> The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order by Vice Mayor Pico <br />at 7:03 p.m. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Dennis led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. She noted <br />the summer months had begun and congratulated all recent graduates from Amador High <br />School Foothill High School and Village High School. She also welcomed the <br />participants in the 2000 Far West Regional Soccer Championships to Pleasanton and to <br />the City's sports fields. She also acknowledged the recent sudden death of Bruce Brown <br />on June 6, 2000. He was a valued community member. had actively served on the West <br />Las Positas Conmatmity Advisory Commitlee and had allended every meeting for the last <br />three years, contributing a significant amotmt of personal time and effort to the study. <br />Condolences were expressed to his wife Joyce, daughter Pare and sons, Bruce and Gary. <br />in memory of Mr. Bmwn, the West Las Positas Community Advisory Committee has <br />decided to dedicate the report of the Committee to hixn. <br /> <br /> Ms, Michelotti noted that Pleasanton's Northern California Boys U-13 and U-16 <br />United Ballistic Soccer champion teams had won their games on Monday. <br />Congratulations were extended to both teams and best of luck extended for their <br />upcoming matches. Pleasanton is very proud of these young athletes. <br /> <br /> Ms. Acosta announced that the City had received a very special award liom the <br />Alameda County Tobacco Control Coalition. Many years ago the City was one of the <br />first cities in the area to assertively establish a "no snloking" rule in local restaurants and <br />bars. Council felt that this role projected healthy environment standards for Pleasanton. <br />The City has been recognized for being the only agency/city in Alameda County that is <br />100% compliant with all of the roles and regulations. Ms. Acosta extended a thank you <br />to all of the restaurants and bars that have worked so carefully with Pleasanton over the <br />years to make sure the City is in complete compliance. Initially there was some concern <br />as to how this would effect business. It has been found that businesses are even ~nore <br />successful with this "no smoking" ordinance.
