MIb~TES <br /> of <br /> THE MEETING <br /> of <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br /> April 20, 1978 <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> Mayor Kenneth Mercer called the Budget Session of the City Council to order <br />at 7:30 P.M. <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br /> The roll call is recorded as follows: Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Kep- <br />hart, Wood, and Mayor Mercer were present. Mr. Brown, City Manager, Mr. Levine, <br />City Attorney, Mr. Walker, Assistant to the City Manager, Mr. Harris, Director <br />of Planning and Community Development, and Mr. Cullum, Chief Building Inspector, <br />were present. <br /> <br />CONSIDER 1978-79 BUDGET <br />Introduction and Overview <br /> Mr. Brown discussed the overall priorities in the budget and reviewed the <br />budget schedule with Council. He stated that following these reviews he would <br />present a report on Proposition 13 which will use the proposed budget as a base. <br />He stated that both the review of the proposed budget and Proposition 13 report <br />should be completed by the end of May and that after the June 6th election at <br />least one and maybe two public hearings would be held, with the budget adopted <br />before June 30th. <br /> <br />~it.~ Attorney <br /> Mr. Levine presented the budget for the City Attorney's office. Council <br />discussion ensued regarding comparitive costs of a deputy city attorney and <br />outside legal assistance. Council made no changes in the City Attorney's <br />budget at this time. <br /> <br />Plannin5 and Building Inspection <br /> Mr. Harris explained the Planning Division budget. Council discussed the <br />upcoming projects and workload of this department. CoUncil made no changes in <br />the Planning Department budget at this time. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cullum presented the Building inspection budget. After various ques- <br />tions and discussion, Council made no changes in the Building Inspection De- <br />partment budget at this time. <br /> <br />~itX Council <br /> Mr. Brown explained the City Council budget. Councilmember Brandes stated <br />he would present further additions later. Mayor Mercer stated he would like <br />to consider implementing a system to give token gifts from the City to visiting <br />dignitaries. Councilmember Kephart stated that he felt the Chamber of ComMerce <br />should participate in such a venture. Council requested Councilmember Kephart <br />to rcview this matter with the Chamber of Commerce. <br /> <br /> <br />
