THE CITY OF 9 <br />' -° ~'~~° ~ -~- '-"` CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />j~L~~S~4NTON® <br />September 18, 2007 <br />Public Works Department <br />TITLE: REVIEW OF REGIONAL AND HIGH SPEED RAIL PLANS <br />SUMMARY <br />The Metropolitan Transportation Commission in cooperation with Caltrans, BART and <br />Caltrain are circulating a draft update to the Regional Rail Plan which provides <br />recommendations on expansion of existing facilities as well as the incorporation of a <br />possible future High Speed Rail System. The California High-Speed Rail Authority is <br />circulating an EIR/EIS that provides alternate alignments of a High Speed Rail System <br />that will connect the Central Valley to the Bay Area. Both the Regional Rail Plan and <br />the High Speed Rail Plan have possible future rail alignments that may have significant <br />impacts to Pleasanton. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Review Regional Rail and High Speed Rail alternatives and provide direction on a letter <br />to be sent to the High Speed Rail Commission with comments on its EIR/EIS. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />While no current fiscal impact is identified, the direction given to the Regional Rail and <br />High Speed Rail Commission may affect the availability of future funding sources for rail <br />projects. <br />
