F <br />THE CITY O <br />- " ~ -'- "" CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />~L~~S~4NTONo <br />July 17, 2007 <br />Public Works Department <br />TITLE: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW OF BIDS, AND <br />AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO DESILVA GATES <br />CONSTRUCTION IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,777,687 FOR RESURFACING <br />OF VARIOUS CITY STREETS, PROJECT NO. 075003 <br />SUMMARY <br />Plans and specifications were prepared for the subject project. Bids have been <br />received and staff is recommending award of the construction contract to the lowest <br />responsible bidder, DeSilva Gates Construction, in the amount of $1,777,687. The <br />subject project is to keep streets in a safe and smooth riding condition by overlaying the <br />existing street surface with a new layer of asphalt concrete. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Approve the plans and specifications for the subject project. <br />2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract to DeSilva Gates <br />Construction of Dublin, California, for a low bid amount of $1,777,687. <br />3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the above construction contract. <br />4. Authorize the Director of Public Works to approve and execute contract change <br />orders for a contingency amount not to exceed $266,600 (15% of the contract <br />amount) for necessary related project work. <br />5. Authorize the transfer of the balance of $436,151.70 from CIP No. 065003 <br />(Resurfacing of Various City streets) to Project No. 075003. This includes <br />$367,000 of scheduled federal grant money. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />This project is part of the City's on-going maintenance efforts to replace the deteriorated <br />surfaces of City streets and is expected to reduce long-term maintenance costs. <br />
