YYi <br />PL£~1S~4NTONo <br />CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />February 6, 2007 <br />Public Works Department <br />TITLE: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW BIDS AND AWARD <br />CONTRACT TO O'GRADY PAVING, INC. IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,691,789 <br />FOR VINEYARD AVENUE MEDIAN STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS, <br />PROJECT NO. 055031 <br />SUMMARY <br />Bids have been received for the subject project and staff is recommending award of the <br />construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder in the amount of $1,681,788.98. <br />The subject project consists of a 2" asphalt concrete open-graded mix overlay and new <br />raised concrete landscaped medians on Vineyard Avenue between Bernal Avenue and <br />Leona Place. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action at the meeting of <br />February 6, 2007: <br />1. Approve the plans and specifications for this project. <br />2. Review the bids received and award the contract for the subject project to O'Grady <br />Paving Incorporated of Mountain View California, the lowest responsible bidder, for <br />a low bid amount of $1,681,788.98. <br />3. Authorize the Director of Public Works to approve and execute contract change <br />orders for a contingency amount not-to-exceed $252,268.02 (15% of the contract) <br />for necessary related subject project work. <br />4. Authorize a transfer of $796,521 from the Annual Street Resurfacing Project, CIP <br />No. 065003. <br />5. Authorize a transfer of $46,086 from the Annual Street Resurfacing Project, CIP <br />No. 055003. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />The subject project will rehabilitate and extend the service life of approximately 270,000 <br />square feet of asphalt paving roadway. Approximately 55,000 square feet of new <br />landscaping will require routine maintenance and irrigation, resulting in an estimated <br />additional cost of $10,500 per year. <br />13 <br />
