CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 98-19 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION SUBMITTING TO THE VOTERS OF <br /> PLEASANTON AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE <br /> REGULATION OF FIREARM SALES THROUGH A <br /> PERMITTING PROCESS AND PROHIBITING THE SALE <br /> OF "SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIALS" <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to California Elections Code §9222, the City Council may submit to the <br /> voters a proposition for the enactment of an ordinance; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council has adopted Ordinance 1719 ("the Ordinance") providing for the <br /> regulation of firearm sales through a permitting process and prohibiting the sale of <br /> "Saturday Night Specials", provided, however, that said ordinance must be <br /> approved by a majority of voters of the City of Pleasanton before it shall become <br /> effective. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: Pursuant to Elections Code §9222, the City Council hereby establishes June 2, <br /> 1998, as the date for an election at which the voters of Pleasanton shall decide <br /> whether or not to ratify the Ordinance, a copy of which is attached to this <br /> resolution. The measure shall be designated by letter by the County of Alameda. <br /> <br />Section 2: The ballot language shall be as follows: <br /> <br /> "Shall Pleasanton adopt an ordinance that (1) requires firearm sales to be regulated <br /> through a permitting process and (2) prohibits in Pleasanton the sale of certain <br /> specified handguns deemed to be inadequately designed and/or poorly <br /> manufactured, commonly known as "Saturday Night Specials?" <br /> <br /> YES NO <br /> <br />Section 3: The City Clerk is directed to transmit the initiative to the City Attorney to prepare <br /> an impartial analysis of the measure. <br /> <br />Section 4: The City Council authorizes arguments for the initiatives to be filed by Becky <br /> Dennis and other citizens. These arguments must be submitted to the City Clerk <br /> by 5:00 p.m. on March 16, 1998. <br /> <br /> <br />
