CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 97-18 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING PROCEDURES FOR <br />APPOINTMENTS TO CITY BOARDS AND <br />COMMISSIONS <br /> <br />Government Code §40605 provides that in a general law city where the <br />office of Mayor is elected by the voters, the Mayor, with the approval of the <br />City Council, shall make all appointments to boards and commissions; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council desires to be more involved in the interviewing and <br /> appointment process with respect to such appointments; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: <br /> <br />Resolution No. 95-114 (A Resolution Establishing Procedures for <br />Appointment to City Boards and Commissions) is rescinded. <br /> <br />Section 2: <br /> <br />The City Council hereby adopts the following procedures for appointments <br />to City Boards and Commissions: <br /> <br />When a term of office for a commissioner or board member is up, or <br />when a vacancy for such office otherwise occurs, the Mayor shall <br />direct that notice thereof be advertised for a minimum of 30 days, <br />except as provided in Subsection F. The Council shall also decide <br />whether the full Council, or only a Council subcommittee, shall <br />interview all candidates. Generally, the procedure shall be the full <br />Council (or a quorum thereof) to conduct the interviews. <br /> <br />Following the close of the advertised period, the City Manager shall <br />distribute to the Council the resumes and letters of interest and shall <br />schedule the interviews of the candidates by the Council or its <br />subcommittee. <br /> <br /> <br />
