<br />PLANNING COMMISSION CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. PC-94-21 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING CITY STAFF MEMBERS FOR THEIR EXEMPLARY <br />WORK AND ASSOCIATED INTEGRITY <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an article appeared in The Independent on Wednesday, <br />April 20, 1994, entitled "'Dream Team' Revisits Golden <br />Eagle Controversy, Did Staff 'Grease the Skids' for Ted <br />Fairfield?"; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a columnist of The Independent, Ira Eisenberg, appeared <br />on Channel 30 alleging the same Pleasanton City staff <br />members of improprieties and abuse of their positions as <br />a result of city staff's recommendation approving the <br />Golden Eagle SUbdivision, as stated in the above <br />referenced newspaper article, and specifically naming <br />City staff members Mr. Gary smith and Mr. Brian swift; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton Planning Commission believes that <br />The Independent's and Mr. Eisenberg's allegations are <br />unfounded and totally inappropriate; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the city of Pleasanton Planning commission recognizes the <br />privileges accorded to newspapers by the First Amendment <br />to the u.s. constitution; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton Planning Commission firmly <br />believes, based upon all its dealings with City staff <br />over many years, in the integrity and professionalism of <br />city staff, which has never been questioned, particularly <br />the integrity and professionalism of Mr. Brian swift and <br />Mr. Gary smith; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as a result of the very real possibility of adverse <br />impacts upon the perception of ci ty staff and <br />particularly, Mr. Swift and Mr. smith, the Planning <br />commission believes an urgent response is required for <br />the public record. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />RESOLVES THE FOLLOWING: <br /> <br />section 1. <br /> <br />The city of Pleasanton Planning Commission does not <br />support, nor does it believe it is appropriate to <br />make, allegations, as stated by Mr. Eisenberg on <br />Channel 30 or as written in The Independent, <br />specifically accusing city staff of improprieties, <br />without more evidence than existed when these <br />reports were made. <br /> <br />II <br /> <br />," <br />
