1 1 <br />City Council Agenda Item #18 (July 18, 2023) <br />Ques�ons & Staff Responses for Water Rates <br />General Questions: <br />1.How many water meters are there in our billing system? <br />There are approximately 22,700 meters <br />2.How often does the City pay Zone 7 Water Agency? <br />The City pays Zone 7 monthly. <br />3.Why do the rates need to be increased? <br />The City of Pleasanton is committed to providing safe, reliable drinking water and <br />this increase will ensure that funds are in place to manage a variety of water <br />supply and quality issues. The primary purpose of the immediate rate adjustment <br />is to fund near-term projects that will allow for the delivery of additional water <br />from Zone 7 to reduce reliance on Pleasanton’s groundwater wells while a <br />longer-term solution to PFAS is developed and implemented. <br />4.When will the rates become effective? <br />The proposed water and sewer rates will be effective November 1, 2023. <br />Proposed Water Rate schedule: <br />Year 1: November 1, 2023 - December 31, 2024 <br />Year 2: January 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025 <br />Year 3: January 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026 <br />Proposed Sewer Rate schedule: <br />Year 1: November 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024 <br />Year 2: July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025 <br />Year 3: July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026 <br />5.The source for the Comparative Annual Residential Water Charges table is <br />EBMUD. Are these rates directly comparable to Pleasanton’s? <br />A general comparison can be made but it is difficult to make an exact comparison <br />as there are a variety of factors that vary between agencies, such as the source <br />of water and the cost of that water. <br />6.Do Pleasanton’s rates include the Zone 7 pass-through?
