Wj <br />THE CITY OF CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />m s oio oso 1 sa <br />PLE SANTON. <br />November 2, 2021 <br />Police <br />TITLE: INTRODUCTION OF AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 10.12 OF <br />THE PLEASANTON MUNICIPAL CODE TO ADD SECTION 10.12.040 <br />REQUIRING THE SAFE STORAGE OF FIREARMS IN RESIDENCES <br />SUMMARY <br />One of the City Council priorities is the establishment of a safe firearm storage <br />ordinance. The attached proposed ordinance seeks to curb access to firearms by <br />children and other persons who may be at risk of harming themselves or others by <br />prohibiting a person from keeping a firearm in any residence unless the firearm is stored <br />in a locked container or the firearm's trigger lock is engaged. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Introduce the attached ordinance requiring the safe storage of firearms in residences. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />Nominal fiscal impact. The Police Department has a longstanding program of offering <br />free trigger locks to residents and that program will continue with the adoption of this <br />ordinance. <br />
