THE CITY OF ,,
Me.0 11!I
9.
Lf ASANTON CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
December 18, 2018
Engineering
TITLE: APPROVE A PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH HMH
ENGINEERS IN THE AMOUNT OF $108,000 FOR THE 35 PERCENT
DESIGN OF A SECOND WESTBOUND LEFT-TURN LANE ON BERNAL
AVENUE AT FIRST STREET/SUNOL BOULEVARD, CIP NO. 17556
SUMMARY
Staff requests authorization for the City Manager to execute an agreement with HMH
Engineers to provide engineering and design services for the 35 percent plans for the
reconstruction of the Bernal Avenue/Sunol Boulevard/First Street intersection to create
a second left-turn lane from westbound Bernal onto southbound Sunol. The project will
include pedestrian and bicycle improvements throughout the intersection. The
intersection improvements were recommended as part of the Junipero
Street/Independence Drive Traffic Calming Plan to help mitigate the Lund Ranch II
traffic impacts, and were identified as a high priority in the City Council's work plan.
Designing to 35 percent will get the project to the point where impacts to adjacent
properties can be fully understood and will allow staff to begin the right-of-way
acquisition process.
RECOMMENDATION
1 . Funds for the proposed
professional services agreement are available in CIP No. 17556.
