THE CITY OF
- '_:ss: :
5
- " -'-T "' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTON.
October 16, 2018
Economic Development
TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION LEVYING THE DOWNTOWN PLEASANTON
BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT ASSESSMENT FOR 2019
SUMMARY
The Downtown Pleasanton Business Improvement District Advisory Board's 2018
annual report and 2019 budget were presented to and approved by the City Council on
September 18, 2018. The Council is now asked to hold a public hearing and consider
adoption of a resolution levying the Downtown Pleasanton Business Improvement
District assessment for 2019.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council hold a public hearing and adopt a resolution levying
the Downtown Pleasanton Business Improvement District assessment for 2019.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The current agreement between the Pleasanton Downtown Association, as manager of
the Downtown Pleasanton Business Improvement District, and the City requires the City
to match the annual assessments paid by businesses in the business improvement
district. In 2018, the City match from the General Fund will be approximately $75,000.
Staff anticipates the 2019 match (if approved) will similarly continue to be around
$75,000; this is included in the City's and the PDA's budgets. In addition to the direct
City contribution, the City provides a significant amount in indirect funding which
includes staff time to administer the PDA assessments and contract, assistance and
support for events and business initiatives, as well as the cost to maintain downtown
planters, cleaning sidewalks, and garbage pickup.
