THE CITY OF 1 5 <br /> prw -► CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pL£ASA\TO\ <br /> August 21 , 2018 <br /> Library and Recreation <br /> TITLE: APPROVE THE APPOINTMENTMENT OF SANDRA CHEN AS TEEN <br /> POET LAUREATE FOR THE 2018/2019 SCHOOL YEAR <br /> SUMMARY <br /> In August 2012, the City started the formal process to recruit and officially appoint Teen <br /> Poet Laureates. The primary role of the City's Teen Poet Laureates is to provide <br /> appropriate poetry at civic events, and promote the appreciation of the literary arts in the <br /> community during the school year. This past summer, staff began the recruitment <br /> process for the Teen Poet Laureate position for the 2018/2019 school year. <br /> As a result, the City received two applications for the Teen Poet Laureate position. It is <br /> recommended that the City Council appoint Sandra Chen from Amador High School as <br /> Teen Poet Laureate. <br /> CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve the appointment of Sandra Chen as the Teen Poet Laureate representing <br /> Amador Valley High School for the 2018/19 school year. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve the appointment of Sandra Chen as the Teen Poet Laureate representing <br /> Amador Valley High School for the 2018/19 school year. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> The City Teen Poet Laureate receives no remuneration. Any expenses related to the <br /> Poet Laureate program, i.e. supplies for workshops, poetry readings, etc., are allocated <br /> within the Library and Recreation Department's operating budget, and total <br /> approximately $2,000. <br />
