CITY OF 2
-•• #i° ° .9. amTHE
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTON.
May 1, 2018
City Manager
City Attorney
TITLE: INTRODUCE AN ORDINANCE ADDING A NEW CHAPTER 11.58 TO THE
PLEASANTON MUNICIPAL CODE RELATED TO THE REGULATION OF
TRAFFIC MEDIANS
SUMMARY
Lingering and loitering on medians and corner islands reduces the safety of the
intersection for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists. This is especially true when
people linger or loiter on narrow medians, as well as medians and corner islands
located in high-volume intersections.
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt an ordinance prohibiting lingering and
loitering on narrow medians, as well as medians and corner islands located in high-
volume intersections.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council introduce an ordinance adding a new Chapter
11.58 to the Pleasanton Municipal Code related to the regulation of traffic medians.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
No financial changes will result from the adoption of the proposed ordinance. Any
proposed enforcement will be by existing staff.
