THE CITY OF <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT • <br /> pLEASANTON. <br /> December 6, 2016 <br /> City Manager's Office <br /> TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION TO APPROVE A DISCOUNTED RATE FOR <br /> COMMERICAL ORGANIC AND MIXED RECYCLING IN THE AMOUNT <br /> OF 25% PER CUBIC YARD FOR METAL CONTAINER BINS AND FOR <br /> 96 GALLON CART FOR ORGANICS COLLECTION <br /> SUMMARY <br /> In March 2013 mandatory recycling for businesses and institutions with four (4) or more <br /> cubic yards of garbage service as well as multifamily properties with five (5) or more <br /> units went into effect Recyclable materials include cardboard, newspaper, white <br /> paper, mixed recyclable paper, recyclable glass food and beverage containers, metal <br /> (aluminum and steel) food and beverage containers, PET (#1) and HDPE (#2) plastic <br /> bottles <br /> In February 2016 the City of Pleasanton elected to opt into Phase 2 of the Alameda <br /> County Waste Management Authority's Mandatory Recycling Ordinance Phase 2 <br /> requires provision to continue mixed recycling of items noted above and adds organics <br /> recycling for all commercial and multi-family building properties (with five or more units) <br /> Organics include food scraps and food-soiled paper <br /> As part of Phase 2 implementation efforts, staff is recommending a discounted rate for <br /> commercial organic and mixed recycling of 25% per cubic yard for metal container bins <br /> and 25% per 96 gallon cart for collection of organics for commercial and multi-family <br /> property accounts <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve the attached resolution to adopt a Discounted Rate for Commercial Organic <br /> and Mixed Recycling in the amount of 25% per cubic yard rate collection of Organics <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> There is no cost to the City to approve the discount to Pleasanton Garbage Service <br /> (PGS) customers <br />
