THE CITY OF 13 <br /> = I CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> December 6, 2016 <br /> Engineering <br /> TITLE: PROVIDE RECOMMENDATION FOR PROCEEDING WITH THE <br /> PROPOSED TWO NEW LIGHTED TENNIS COURTS AT TENNIS AND <br /> COMMUNITY PARK, CIP NO. 147031 BASED ON THE PARKS AND <br /> RECREATION COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION <br /> SUMMARY <br /> As directed by the City Council on August 9, 2016, the Parks and Recreation Commission <br /> has worked with the community over the course of two public meetings to determine the <br /> best location to construct two additional tennis courts at the Tennis and Community Park <br /> On November 10, 2016 the Parks and Recreation Commission considered the top three <br /> preferred locations, along with a detailed cost estimate for each of the three alternatives <br /> At the meeting, the Parks and Recreation Commission chose their preferred alternative <br /> and is now making a recommendation to City Council regarding where to construct the <br /> two additional tennis courts within the park <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1 Receive the recommendation from the Parks and Recreation Commission <br /> regarding where to construct the two additional tennis courts at the Tennis and <br /> Community Park <br /> 2 Confirm the preferred location to construct the two additional tennis courts <br /> 3 Direct staff to proceed with the preparation of plans and specifications for the <br /> tennis courts in the preferred location, followed by advertising the plans and <br /> specifications for competitive construction bidding <br /> 4 Direct staff to bring a final recommendation on how to fund the construction of the <br /> two tennis courts when the bids are received and staff is recommending award of <br /> a construction contract based upon the lowest responsive bid amount <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> If Council confirms the Parks and Recreation Commission recommendation for the <br /> location of the two additional courts, it is estimated an additional $500,000 in funding will <br /> be necessary to complete the project This funding amount is available within the Park <br /> Development Fund (which consists of already collected Park Development Impact Fees ) <br /> After the project is designed, competitively bid, and the low bid amount is known, staff will <br /> bring the recommendation to award the construction contract before Council with an <br /> anticipated budget to construct The recommendation will include an exact amount in <br /> additional funding needed from the Park Development Fund to fully fund the project <br /> construction <br />
