THE CITY OF
pLEASANTONC
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
11
July 19, 2016
Human Resources
TITLE: CONSIDER A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE ACCESS TO FEDERAL
LEVEL SUMMARY CRIMINAL HISTORY INFORMATION FOR
EMPLOYMENT, LICENSING, OR CERTIFICATION PURPOSES FOR
EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS.
SUMMARY
The Livermore Pleasanton Fire Department (LPFD) is a certifying authority for its
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). In order to maintain this certifying authority
status, the City of Pleasanton must be able to obtain State and Federal criminal
background information by conducting a Department of Justice Live Scan fingerprint
process. All City of Pleasanton employees undergo a Department of Justice Live Scan
at the State level. This would expand the criminal history information received to a
national level and as required of certifying authorities.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the attached resolution authorizing the City of Pleasanton to increase access
from State only to State and Federal level summary criminal history information.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
With the approval of this resolution, the cities of Livermore and Pleasanton would be
charged $49 per EMT Live Scan. Approval of this resolution will result in biennial
savings of approximately $4500.
