THE CITY OF 13
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLE ASANTON,
May 3, 2015
Operations Services
TITLE: CONSIDER INTRODUCTION OF AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND
MUNICIPAL CODE CHAPTER 9.30 WATER CONSERVATION PLAN
TO CHANGE TITLE AND MAKE OTHER MINOR AMENDMENTS
SUMMARY
Implementation of Pleasanton Municipal Code (PMC) Chapter 9.30 [renamed Water
Management Plan, originally Water Conservation Plan] for the past two years has
demonstrated the importance of precise descriptions of customer water use
expectations during designated stages of water shortage. In light of California's on-
going drought and future need for continued protection of our water resources, further
amendments to this chapter are necessary to refine the following: incorporation of a
"low water user" definition and its use, inclusion of a mechanism by which excess use
penalties are suspended, and modification/refinement of water use restrictions in
response to water conservation achievements and definition of use. All amendments
are considered minor; no new restrictions or changes to violations are proposed.
RECOMMENDATION
Introduce an ordinance to amend Municipal Code Chapter 9.30 (renamed Water
Management Plan) to formally incorporate the low water user definition, process for
excess use penalty suspension, and minor water use restriction modifications.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
No expected impact.
