CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT 6 December 3, 2013 Economic Development TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION LEVYING THE PLEASANTON DOWNTOWN BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT ASSESSMENT FOR 2014 SUMMARY The Pleasanton Downtown Association (PDA) Advisory Board 2013 report and budget for 2014 were presented to and approved by the City Council on November 19, 2013. The PDA Advisory Board report and budget recommends no modifications to the Pleasanton Downtown Business Improvement District (District) boundaries and no change in the method of levying the assessment for 2014. The Council is thereby asked to hold a public hearing and approve and levy the Downtown Business Improvement District assessment for 2014. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends the Council open and close a public hearing, and adopt a resolution levying the Pleasanton Downtown Business Improvement District assessment for 2014. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The City contract with the PDA requires the City to match the annual assessments paid by businesses in the District. In 2014, the City's matching funds (budgeted in the General Fund) will be approximately $65,500. In addition to the direct City contribution, the City contributes to the PDA by funding staff time to administer the PDA assessments and agreement, assistance and staff time for special events, as well as the cost to maintain downtown planters, clean sidewalks, coordinate garbage pickup, and other infrastructure and logistical efforts.
