CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> September 3, 2013 <br /> City Manager <br /> TITLE: APPOINTMENT TO THE ALAMEDA COUNTY MOSQUITO <br /> ABATEMENT DISTRICT <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Recently the City solicited applications to fill vacancies for various commissions, <br /> committees and regional boards. At the close of the recruitment, no applications were <br /> received for the trustee vacancy on the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District. <br /> In October of 2012, correspondence was received from the District notifying the City <br /> that the existing trustee was leaving the area and could not be reappoiited. Currently, <br /> the two-year seat remains vacant and the term expires on January 1, 2015. <br /> The City Council may choose to treat the trustee appointment as an a Council <br /> Committee Assignment and have a City Council hold the trustee seat. Alternatively, the <br /> City may continue to recruit to fill the vacant seat through the regular commission and <br /> committee recruitment process. The Mosquito Abatement District meets monthly on the <br /> second Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. At times, trustees serve on sub-comm ttees developed <br /> as the need arises. The District provides trustees with a $100 stipend in lieu of <br /> expenses. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council discuss the option to appoint a City Council member to the <br /> Mosquito Abatement District for the term ending January 1, 2015. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> There is no fiscal impact. <br /> Submitted by` Approved by: <br /> Maria Lara Nelso I. ho <br /> Assistant to the City Manager City Manager <br />
