CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> June 19, 2012 <br /> Administrative Services <br /> TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR THE HOLDING OF A GENERAL <br /> MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2012, <br /> FOR THE ELECTION OF A MAYOR AND TWO MEMBERS OF THE CITY <br /> COUNCIL; A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE BOARD OF <br /> SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF ALAMEDA TO CONSOLIDATE THE <br /> ELECTION; AND A RESOLUTION READOPTING REGULATIONS <br /> GOVERNING CANDIDATES FOR ELECTIVE OFFICE PERTAINING TO <br /> CANDIDATE STATEMENTS TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL REQUIRED <br /> MINORITY LANGUAGE ASSISTANCE <br /> SUMMARY <br /> The purpose of November 2012 election is to elect a Mayor for a full two-year term and <br /> two Members of the City Council for a full four-year term. The law requires that certain <br /> actions be taken by the City Council in order for the election to occur. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Adopt the attached resolutions: (1) Calling for the holding of a General Municipal <br /> Election to be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, for the election of a Mayor and two <br /> members of the City Council; (2) Requesting the Board of Supervisors of the County of <br /> Alameda to consolidate the election with the Statewide General Election; and (3) <br /> Readopt the regulations governing candidates for elective office pertaining to candidate <br /> statements to include required language assistance in Tagalog and Vietnamese. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> Funding in the amount of $75,000 is allocated in the Fiscal Year 2012/13 Operating <br /> Budget for the holding of the November 6, 2012 election. Should estimates from the <br /> County for its services in conducting the election increase, staff will return to Council for <br /> an additional appropriation during the midyear budget review process. <br />
