THE CITY OF 14
PLEzS4NTONo CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
April 17, 2012
Operations Services
TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE MASTER FEE SCHEDULE TO
ADD A FEE STRUCTURE FOR PUBLIC ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING
STATIONS OPERATED BY THE CITY
SUMMARY
In 2011, the City received a grant to obtain five electric vehicle (EV) charging stations
from Coulomb Technologies (Coulomb) for public use. The stations were installed in
early 2012 and made available initially at no cost to the general public as a way of
encouraging usage. At the time, staff indicated that a recommendation regarding an
appropriate fee schedule would be developed in April 2012 after there had been time to
assess the systems. As a result, staff is now recommending amending the City Master
Fee Schedule to incorporate electric vehicle charging stations.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the attached resolution amending the City Master Fee Schedule to include electric
vehicle charging stations and authorizing the City Manager to adjust these rates as
necessary to recover actual costs reflecting PG&E rate adjustments. The recommended
fee is $1 per hour.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The City will incur expenses for electricity and payment processing at the charging
stations. However, these costs are covered by the rate structure and as a result, the EV
charging stations will be operated at no net cost to the City.
